First-Time Login to Microsoft 365 Business with MFA Setup
This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will guide you through logging into your Microsoft 365 Business account for the first time and setting up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) using the Microsoft Authenticator app. This process ensures your account is secure and ready to use.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
Your company email address (e.g., name@yourcompany.com)
A temporary password (provided by your IT administrator)
A smartphone (iPhone or Android) with internet access
Access to the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android)
Step 1: Access the Microsoft 365 Login Page
Open a web browser (Edge, Chrome, Firefox, or Safari).
Go to: https://www.office.com
Click the Sign in button in the top right corner.
Step 2: Sign In with Your Company Email
Enter your company email address (e.g., name@yourcompany.com).
Click Next.
Enter the temporary password provided by your IT administrator.
Click Sign in.
You will be prompted to create a new password. Enter and confirm your new password, then click Sign in again.
Step 3: Install Microsoft Authenticator App
On your smartphone, open the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android).
Search for Microsoft Authenticator.
Tap Install or Get.
Wait for the app to download and install.
Step 4: Set Up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
After signing in on your computer, you will be prompted to set up additional security.
Click Next.
On your phone, open the Microsoft Authenticator app.
If prompted, allow notifications.
Tap the + or Add account button in the app.
Select Work or school account.
Choose Scan a QR code.
On your computer, click Next until you see a QR code.
Use your phone to scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen.
Once scanned, click Next on your computer.
Approve the test notification sent to your phone.
Click Next to complete setup.
Step 5: Access Microsoft 365 Apps
After MFA setup is complete, you will be redirected to the Microsoft 365 home page.
From here, you can open apps like Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
To install Microsoft Office on your computer, click Install apps in the top right corner and follow the prompts.
Tips and Support
Keep your Microsoft Authenticator app installed and updated.
